Olaide Oyelude, Katsina Two friends, Hassan Ibrahim, 50 and Adamu Idris, 60, who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl, were on Tuesday remanded in Katsina Prison on the orders of a senior magistrate, Falila Dikko. Ibrahim and Idris, both residents of Unguwar kasha Village in the Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, were accused of being responsible for their victim’s seven months’ pregnancy. The senior magistrate directed that the duo should be remanded in the prison custody till January 24, 2018 when their case will come up for mention. The two men are facing charges of criminal conspiracy and rape, which the police said are contrary to sections 97 and 283 of the Penal Code. The rape was said to have been reported at Kafur Divisional Police Station on November 10, 2017 by the victim’s elder brother, Sirajo Aminu. Police have arrested one Victor Umeh who killed his girlfriend, Happiness after he saw her talking to her ex-boyfriend in  the Okota area of Lagos. It was gathered that the suspect, a married man with five children and trader at Ladipo Market hosted a birthday party for Happiness in a hotel along Ago-Palace Way, Lagos on Saturday, July 29. President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all state governors to ensure payment of outstanding salaries and other allowances owed workers in their various states before the forthcoming Christmas celebrations. Nigerian Govt targets 7m tonnes of local rice production in 2018. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed says the Federal Government targets 7 million tonnes of rice production in 2018. Mohammed, who made this disclosure at a media briefing on Wednesday in Abuja, said rice demand in the country as at 2015 was 6.3 million tonnes, adding that importation of rice dropped from 644,131 tonnes in 2015 to about 21,000 tonnes in 2017 due to the achievement of the administration in local rice production. According to the minister, some investors from Thailand plans to establish rice milling plants in Nigeria due to the success recorded in local rice production. “A few years ago, this would not have been possible since Nigeria was not considered a top rice producing country. Buhari approves N800m budget support loan for 35 states each The Federal Government has approved a new budget support loan facility for 35 states across the country to help them meet salaries, pension and other infrastructure obligations. Each state will get N800m, summing up to N28bn. Of the 36 states across the federation, only Lagos was excluded from the loan. The budget approval was disclosed after the end of a meeting of the National Economic Council presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma, revealed the information to reporters on Thursday, saying the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun and the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefile have been instructed to effect payments. Apetumodu of Ipetumodu dies at 80. The Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba James Adedokun Adegoke, has passed away at age 80. Naija News gathered that the monarch died on Sunday afternoon at his palace in Ipetumodu. A family of the late monarch, anonymously, confirmed the news to Punch, saying the death had not been officially announced. “It is true that Kabiyesi has gone to be with his ancestors. The terrorists group, Boko Haram, on Saturday attacked the Borno town of Magumeri, some 50 kilometers from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. It was gathered that the town had been taken over by the terrorists group. According to reports, residents said the group invaded  Magumeri, at about 7.00 p.m., shooting sporadically,  throwing  explosive devices and making the people of the town to flee. “We hurriedly took our families to the bushes before they could get us.
